Stakes-Producing Mare, Broad Stripes, Confirmed in Foal to Disarm

Broad Stripes Confirmed in Foal to Disarm as First Milestone for Freshman Stallion

STILLWATER, N.Y. — Hidden Lake Farm is pleased to announce that the regally bred stakes producer Broad Stripes has been confirmed in foal to Disarm, marking the first mare confirmed in-foal for the Graded Stakes-winning son of Gun Runner. This milestone signals a strong start for the stallion’s inaugural season at the NY-based Hidden Lake Farm.

Broad Stripes (Bernardini – Viva La Flag, by Rahy) is a half-sister to the Champion Manyuz and stems from the prolific Phipps female line of Hall of Famer Personal Ensign. Broad Stripes has already proven her merit as a producer, foaling the precocious Brocknardini (Palace Malice), winner of the Selima Stakes at two with earnings of over $250,000.

Disarm, a son of Gun Runner out of a Tapit mare, showcases the physical and mental constitution required to compete at the highest level on American turf. A winner of the Matt Winn Stakes (G3), Disarm’s credentials as a "Saturday Horse" were cemented by his runner-up performance in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes—the Mid-Summer Derby—and a game fourth in the Kentucky Derby (G1).

A daughter of the legendary Bernardini, Broad Stripes is a half-sister to Champion Manyuz and hails from the prestigious Phipps family of Hall of Famer Personal Ensign.

"We have been exceptionally pleased with the reception Disarm has received from breeders both within the Empire State and across the region," said Chris Bernhard of Hidden Lake Farm. "He is as pretty as they come—a physical powerhouse with the frame and presence of his sire. Confirming a mare of Broad Stripes' quality as his first in foal is the perfect start. She brings that classic Bernardini stamina and the depth of the Personal Ensign family, which should suit Disarm’s brilliance perfectly."

The "New York Advantage"

The arrival of Disarm to the Hidden Lake Farm roster reinforces the farm’s mission to provide New York breeders with access to elite Kentucky-caliber bloodlines without leaving the Saratoga region.

"The gap between Kentucky and New York is closing, and stallions like Disarm are the bridge," Bernhard noted. "By breeding to a horse with this level of performance and pedigree right here in Stillwater, our clients are positioning themselves for the lucrative Breeder Awards and restricted stakes programs that make New York the most financially sound place to raise a thoroughbred."

Hidden Lake Farm expects a very busy season for Disarm and looks forward to welcoming his first crop of foals in January 2027.
